Driving Awareness for Continuous Monitoring of Patients on Opioids

Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (www.AAMI.org) has, unlike past initiatives in this space, set a goal to establish the business case, demonstrating strong financial justification and improved patient outcomes, and to educate and encourage hospitals to adopt continuous monitoring for all patients on opioids.

Vast knowledge is being generated by monitoring efforts; the coalition will be instrumental in compiling information and disseminating it, with the ultimate goal of safer patients worldwide.

The Coalition recommends:

“Adopting continuous respiratory monitoring of all patients receiving opioids to increase Safety through the timely recognition of decompensation. Experience from early adopters demonstrates that continuous respiratory monitoring combined with education, culture change, and process improvements effectively increase quality of patient care at an optimal cost structure.”

PMD seeks to support this worthy initiative for the next 24 months to make a difference in healthcare.
